2022 Annual Print Exhibition – Emporia Camera Club

Opening day for the Annual Print Exhibition! This exhibition is absolutely stunning, bold colors, beautiful landscapes and more! Come take a look for yourself and get lost in these beautiful photographs. Artist Reception is March 4th from 4-6PM.

Gallery Hours are 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. from Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. All exhibitions in the Trusler Gallery of the Emporia Arts Center are free to the public.

EAC’s DRUMLINE Moved to Tuesday Night, February 1

Fearing inclement and dangerous weather will prevent performers from reaching Emporia, DRUMLINE has rescheduled its Wednesday night performance to Tuesday night of this week.

The performance begins at 7:00 pm at Albert Taylor Hall on the Campus of Emporia State University.

If you are a 2021-2022 EAC Member or Business Partner or have purchased tickets, you will use your current tickets for the rescheduled date on Tuesday night.

EAC has another AMAZING show coming soon! The Greatest Love of All starring Belinda Davids pays tribute to the late Whitney Houston.

Houston’s musical legacy is brought to life in this critically acclaimed stage show starring RiSa artists, Belinda Davids. Described as “mind-blowingly spot on”, the production will fill you with joy, nostalgia, and wonderment as it takes you on a heartfelt journey through Houston’s Greatest Hits.

Emporia, KS – The Emporia Arts Center will host an Artist’s Opening Reception for Matt Hoelscher’s show True Fiction in the Trusler Gallery, 815 Commercial St., from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, January 14th, 2021.  The show will be up for viewing January 13th – February 18th, 2022.

Matt Hoelscher work is influenced by TV shows, comics and toys that he had grew up with as a child. The fictional tales help cope with reality by being able to escape into his own imagination. Painting allows Hoelscher to explore both reality and fantasy in the same space while carefully balancing both elements into his work while emphasizing the duality between the two.

Each one of Hoelscher work is a performance of his imagination, his studio becomes a space that allows him to act out scenes in his head such as play. “The props and environments are crude and ephemerals, reminiscent of how child play with anything that they can get their hands on. They are painted as physical objects that will eventually break down overtime. I dress myself in costumes to create characters from different genres that I enjoy. Then I put those characters into scenes that I have made from cardboard still-life’s that I call toy theaters.” The process involves carefully rendering oil paint onto cardboard and balancing the simulated texture of paint with the actual texture of the cardboard to create a balance of what is real and what is an illusion.

DRUMLine Live embodies the soulful, high-stepping style of the Historically Black College and University (HBCU) marching band experience. with its riveting rhythms, bold beats, and ear-grabbing energy, DRUMLine Live is a high-octane musical roller coaster ride that will touch every emotion in your body.
