Shakespeare In Jazz

The Emporia Arts Council is excited to announce our next performance, Shakespeare In Jazz! Award-winning composer and pianist, Daniel Kelly, Explores the meeting place of music and literature, visual art, and journalism. Shakespeare in Jazz is Kelly’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s works into fresh and dynamic jazz songs, adding powerhouse jazz vocalists and musicians, including acclaimed jazz improviser, Frederick Johnson. Kelly brilliantly re-interprets text from Shakespeare’s beloved plays into tunes you’ll be singing the whole car ride home!

RUMOURS comes to Emporia!

Join us at the historic Emporia Granada Theatre on Tuesday, May 4, 7:00 PM for RUMOURS: A Fleetwood Mac Tribute

Rumours has taken the U.S. by storm with their stage scorching renditions of Fleetwood Mac songs. Fans from across the nation claim that Rumours is the band to see if you are looking for an authentic recreation of live Fleetwood Mac shows. They will make you dance, sing along at the top of your lungs, and you’ll even learn something new about Fleetwood Mac at each performance.

EAC Young Artist of the Month

EAC’s Young Artist of the Month program is a way for us to celebrate the talent in our community’s youth, by shining a bright spotlight on a different budding artist each month.

The selected young artist will receive a certificate, and will have their artwork on display in EAC’s upper corridor for one month. Young artists will also have the opportunity to show off their art skills and be featured in an educational EAC YouTube video, which can be shown in their classroom!

To be eligible, students or a nominator must submit an application along with a photo of an original piece of artwork. Please download the application below, complete, and send to sgentry@emporiaksarts.org or drop off at EAC 815 Commercial St.

Micro Kingdoms

The Emporia Arts Center is proud to present the work of local artist Garrett Briggeman, in the exhibition “Micro Kingdoms”. This show will be on display through April 2.

A small artist’s reception honoring Stephanie will be held Friday, March 5th from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Trusler Gallery.

All exhibitions in the Trusler Gallery of the Emporia Arts Center are free too the public. Current Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. from Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Roses & Thorns III

The Emporia Arts Center is proud to present the work of artist and art educator Stephanie Alaniz, in the exhibition “Roses and Thorns III. This show will be on display through February 26.

A small artist’s reception honoring Stephanie will be held Friday, February 5th from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Trusler Gallery.

All exhibitions in the Trusler Gallery of the Emporia Arts Center are free too the public. Current Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. from Tuesday through Friday and 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Stick Together

In celebration of the triumphs, strengths, and individuality of our community, the Emporia Arts Council announces, Stick Together: A Community Sticker Mural.

WHO: Anyone who is a part of Emporia and the Emporia Arts Community – that includes EAC’s 7 county service area(Lyon, Chase, Coffey, Greenwood, Morris, Osage, and Wabaunsee Counties), or any person who would like to join our community and this fun project!

WHAT: We are asking that you bring in 1 sticker that you feel represents YOU. What that means, is up to you! Some examples of stickers include:
– A store bought sticker of your favorite movie character
– A sticker you drew on label paper and cut out yourself
– A promotional sticker advertising your favorite restaurant
– A sticker created by your favorite local artist
– A sticker that is blue because that’s your favorite color
– A sticker from a banana at the supermarket because you love bananas
Any sticker you saw and just thought “..hey, I like that!”
Stickers should be less than 6″x6″ in size and may not include sensitive subject including, but not limited to: swearing, nudity, drugs, and violence. Stickers found to be violating these rules will promptly be covered by sparkly star and puppy stickers.

WHEN: Contributions will be accepted beginning Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 10:00 am. Stick Together is an on-going community project and contributions will be accepted until during EAC business hours the mural is “full”.

WHERE: The mural will be located just past the entrance to the Glaser Art & Gift Store in the atrium of the Emporia Arts Center, 815 Commercial St. If you have any trouble locating the mural feel free to ask the Front Desk.

HOW: Simply stick your sticker anywhere on the mural board! Try not to fully obscure or cover other stickers with your addition, but please understand your sticker may be partially covered as more contributions are brought in. We also ask those who are willing and able to sign their name and age to our Artist Log for the piece, as an additional option you may include a description of your sticker and who created the sticker.

The Emporia Arts Council’s Annual Art Gifts Holiday Boutique is open to the public now through December 30. Inside you’ll find a wide variety of locally handmade goods and gifts for the holiday season! Not only will you find seasonal gifts but we have tons of new work that is a perfect gift any time of year.

Stop by the Emporia Arts Council Monday-Friday 10am-6pm and Saturdays 10am-3pm to check out the selection.
