CHALK FEST IS BACK!
After a 15 year absence Chalk Fest is coming back to Emporia on September 21st. EAC will be shutting down the 800 block of Commercial street. For one day and one day only to bring you this colorful and creative event!
What is Chalk Fest you may ask? Waaaaaay back in 2001 Emporia Arts Council got together and put together its first Chalk Fest – a day of creating images right on the street! Whether you choose to be a registered artist or just come down to look at the art being created it is sure to be a day of celebration! Art, Food Trucks, Live Music and Fun!! Stay tuned for more information!!
This month in the Trusler Gallery we have American Cheese: The Nick Geankoplis Show. This show is a blend of classical gallery mixed with installation. Nick blends his knowledge of utilitarian ceramics with the ideas of abstract ceramic sculpture. The result is a colorful display of the known figures that clay can be formed into alongside the more fluid idea that it can become more.
This is a wonderful presentation by Nick who is the current Head of the Ceramics Department at K-State University. He has taught and shown nationally and internationally. All of his works pull from the experiences he has had over the past two decades of exploration in the ceramic world.
On Display: May 2nd – June 1st | Free to the public
Artist Reception: May 3rd | 4:00-6:00pm
