The Emporia Arts Center will host an Artist’s Opening Reception for Steve Barnard’s show, Visions of Variety, in the Trusler Gallery, 815 Commercial St., from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6th, 2024. The show will be up for viewing September 6th – September 28th, 2024.
The world and artistic mind of Steve Barnard will be on display at Emporia Arts Center this September. Steve has a unique illustrative voice in which, through his creations (be they paintings, mixed media, or sculpture) one finds themselves in the middle of a story. This aptly fits as Steve has been telling a story of some kind all his life through his work. Each piece in Steve’s show makes the viewer feel as if they have walked into another universe that has just been waiting to be discovered. From the abstract to the small village on an island in the middle of the ocean, Steve’s work delights and brings out the fantastical stories we carry within us.
Steve has actively been pursuing art since Junior High School, where he started by drawing on t-shirts with colored markers and selling them to classmates. After a semester at Boise State College, Steve joined the United States Air Force and while enlisted continued to produce and sell paintings in his spare time. Currently, Steve resides in Emporia with his wife, Marilyn, after spending most of his life in the Pacific Northwest. He has also recently authored a Young Adult fiction book titled, The Golden Harp, featuring his illustrations.
The Trusler Gallery is free to the general public.
