ESU Student Show this Friday!

Emporia, KS – The Emporia Arts Center will host an Artist’s Opening Reception for the ESU Art Student Exhibit in the Trusler Gallery, 815 Commercial St, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm on Friday, April 7, 2023. The exhibition will be on display April 7 – April 29, 2023.

This show is an annual exhibition of students’ artwork from Emporia State University. To be considered for the show each can enter up to 3 pieces. A juror then comes in and thoroughly looks over the laid-out pieces and selects the pieces that are considered to be the most excellent. This year’s juror comes to EAC from The Sandzen Gallery – Director Ron Michael.

After the pieces are selected, they are displayed in the Trusler Gallery for viewing. Those not selected will also be available to the public in the “Salon des Refuses” at Trox Gallery at 715 Commercial. The idea of a Salon des Refuses began in Paris in 1863 by Napoleon III as a way to view rejected art from the official Salon. In doing so it provided more art for all and that is what the collaboration between ESU, EAC, and Trox hope to provide for the community.

Presentation of Scholarships followed by Juror Awards will begin at Emporia Arts Center at 5:15pm, the evening of the opening reception.

Come downtown to support the students from our university and enjoy all the art!
